I The work I do

Five kinds of journey, one promise.

Airport runs are the routine work. Everything below is the rest of the diary. The same single-driver setup applies. Quote-on-request only, because no two of these journeys look the same.

I · Hospital appointments

Pre-op, chemo, and family visits.

A quiet hybrid, a familiar face, and time to settle. I sit in the car park if you need me to. No surcharges for waiting, no clock-watching outside oncology, no radio chatter on the way home when you are tired. If the appointment over-runs by an hour, the price does not move.

Mrs P books me for her quarterly Christie's appointment in Withington. Same driver every time, same parking spot, same flask of tea waiting in the door pocket.

II · Business journeys

Meetings, stations, conference pickups.

I will get you to the platform with a margin. I will wait the meeting out if that is the brief. I do not text, I do not call you, I do not put the radio on. The boot takes a suit carrier without folding it in half, and the car is valeted between jobs so the shoulders of your jacket stay clean.

A regular Friday Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly run for a finance professional. Drop at 07:45, collect at 18:10, repeat for the next eighteen months.

III · Intercity, across the North

Leeds to anywhere by arrangement.

Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle, the Lake District, the coast. Quote-on-request based on the miles, the time of day, and any waiting. The Auris is a touring estate, built for the motorway. London on rare request, by prior arrangement only. I do not do same-day three-hundred-mile work, but I will not turn down a sensible booking with notice.

A family of three from Leeds to Liverpool docks for a cruise embarkation. Boot took two large cases, a holdall and the dog basket. On the doorstep at 06:30, dockside by 09:15.

IV · Sensitive journeys

Funerals, weddings, prison visits.

Discretion is the brief. A smart clean car, a smart clean driver, no chatter unless you start it. The car is dark grey, the suit is dark grey, and the silence is comfortable. For funeral cortèges I will follow the hearse at a respectful pace and park where the wake directs. For prison visits I know the protocols at HMP Leeds, Wealstun and New Hall.

Funeral cortège from Leeds Crematorium to a wake in Skipton. Two stops on the way for an elderly aunt who needed five minutes.

V · Repeat and regular bookings

Set it up once, on WhatsApp.

Scheduled school runs, weekly hospital appointments, regular business commutes. Set the schedule once and I will send a reminder the night before, every time. A discounted blended rate is available for three or more weekly bookings. Same driver, same car, same plate at the kerb at the same minute every week.

A Tuesday morning chemo round-trip to St James's, weekly for six months. Door at 08:40, ward by 09:20, home by 13:00, every week without a missed slot.

II How a quote works

Three steps. No surprises.

For non-airport work there is no fixed price list, because no two journeys are alike. The process below is how a number gets to you, in writing, before you have committed to anything.

i.

WhatsApp the brief.

Pickup postcode, destination, date, time. Add anything that matters, such as waiting time, a return leg, multiple stops, a child seat or a wheelchair fold.

ii.

Fixed-price reply within the hour.

Usually within five minutes during waking hours. The number is the number, written down, not adjusted at the door or after the journey for any reason.

iii.

Confirmed the night before, with the plate and ETA.

A short message the evening before, with the registration, the ETA and a direct line. If your plans shift, message back. Nothing is locked until you say it is.

III What it costs

No fixed price list. Just one figure, agreed up front.

Pricing is by miles, time, and waiting. Always in writing, before you book, never adjusted at the door and never tacked onto the end. The Auris does not have a meter. There is no clock running while you finish your appointment, or while the wake winds down, or while the meeting over-runs by forty minutes. The figure you see on WhatsApp on Tuesday is the figure you pay on Saturday.

Miles
Point to point, postcode to postcode.
Time
Hour of day, traffic, season.
Waiting
Within reason, no charge. Agreed up front.
IV Voices from the diary

Three regulars, three quiet journeys.

Imran has been driving my mother to the Christie for two years. He waits in the car park, never moans, never charges for it. When she came out of her last session she fell asleep before we left Withington. He drove the rest like the car was full of eggs.

Margaret K.
Wakefield, WF2
Quarterly oncology, MAN side of town

I needed a car for my father's funeral. I rang three firms, two were short with me, one wanted a deposit there and then. Imran rang back within ten minutes. The car was spotless, he wore a dark suit and tie, and he found a parking spot at the crematorium without being asked.

David H.
Bradford, BD9
Cortège to Skipton

Standing Friday booking for fourteen months now. Leeds to Piccadilly, drop and collect. He is on the drive at 07:25 on the dot. I have stopped looking at the apps entirely.

Imogen R.
Harrogate, HG2
Weekly business commute
V Questions, answered

Four questions people ask first.

01 Do you charge for waiting time?

Not at hospital appointments, and not within reason on anything else. If the meeting runs an hour over, the price does not change. If it runs four hours over because the bypass became a day-stay, send a message and we will agree something fair before I leave the car park. I have never had a customer think the figure was unreasonable, because we talk before, not after.

02 Can I book the same driver every week?

Yes. That is the entire point of Whiterose. One driver, one car. Set the schedule once on WhatsApp and the same registration is at the kerb at the same minute every week. For three or more bookings a week I offer a discounted blended rate which I will quote you when you describe the pattern.

03 Do you do long-distance? London? Edinburgh?

London on prior arrangement only, and almost never same-day. Edinburgh and the Highlands are case-by-case, and I will be honest if I think a train is the better answer for you. The Auris is comfortable on the motorway, but a five-hour run is a different conversation from a Leeds-to-Manchester hop, and the quote will reflect that.

04 Is the price ever adjusted after the journey?

No. The figure I send on WhatsApp before you book is the figure you pay, in cash or by card at the end. No tolls bolted on, no fuel surcharge invented at the airport barrier, no waiting clock you did not know was running. If anything changes on the day, I will say so before the car moves.
